The Big Bang Theory 5.19 “The Weekend Vortex” Review
Premièring in 2007 The Big Bang Theory is finally growing up. Now all the boys, except for poor Raj, have a girlfriend and they are doing rather well in their new relationships.

Raj is still not able to overcome his fear of women. He still thinks having a girlfriend means sacrificing a lot. For good or bad, his pals don’t think the same.
The relationship between Leonard and Penny is blooming. In Leonard’s words the “beta test” is going without any hitches. They are open to each other and are developing a genuine understanding for each other. Penny doesn’t make a scene when Leonard tells him about the upcoming guy weekend. She understands and gladly accepts it.
However, things are not so smooth for Howard. He can’t answer Bernadette on time and she turns up at their place with a new laptop and a game. Penny has joined the guys before, so there should not be an issue propping up this time, shouldn’t it be?
Bernie demonstrates her skills with sound effects which make everyone go crazy.
During all this hoopla Sheldon (and Raj of course) don’t seem to enjoy it much. He should understand it was he who ditched his girlfriend in favour of his video games. She was even abiding by the rules of their ‘Relationship Agreement.’ So harsh of Sheldon!
One of Sheldon’s weak points is that sarcasm doesn’t really bother him. This week, however, this trait of his personality works in his favour. He responds to Amy in her words and refuses to attend her aunt’s party in favour of the guy weekend. This makes Amy go mad but Raj comes just in time to rescue Sheldon.
The weekend came and the boys were together once again. There Raj utters the dialogue of the week. He says: “But excuse me, I have something to say. None of you may realize it, but I was very much looking forward to this weekend. It was gonna be like the old days – the four of us hanging out, playing video games, before you guys all got girlfriends. Do you have any idea what it’s like to be the only one without a girlfriend? Even if I get one someday, I’ll still be the guy who got a girl after Sheldon Cooper!”
Is this the psychological tug he needed to overcome his fear of women? He now realises he is the only one who is left behind. It would be interesting to see Raj getting a girlfriend this season. That would be more hilarious than awkward Sheldon and his relationships.
